Sony Pictures has acquired “Father Stu,” a real-life drama starring Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson. Father Stu is director Rosalind Russ’ debut film. Russ, who also wrote the script, previously wrote the script for an episode of the television series Matador.
In a faith-based film, Father Stu tells the story of Father Stuart Long, who began his career as a boxer and later became a priest, and his inspiring journey from self-destruction to salvation. Wahlberg also went through a physical transformation where he gained tens of pounds for the role.
Wahlberg said, “Father Stu’s journey from troublemaker to clergyman has inspired many, including myself. Rosey has done an incredible job capturing her essence and how she impacts the people she meets. I hope this movie keeps her spirit alive and well. We will continue the good work.” made the statement.
The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson, as well as Jacki Weaver, Annet Mahendru, Teresa Ruiz, Winter Ave Zoli. It has been announced that Father Stu, whose shooting has been completed and is currently in post-production, will be released in the US on Easter week, on April 15.
