For “Joker 2”, it is Lady Gaga who will play Harley Quinn. A role until now held by Margot Robbie, as in “The Suicide Squad“. The actress gave her opinion on this choice.
Lady Gaga is the new Harley Quinn
Joker was an unexpected success in 2019. A dark film with a laughable budget compared to the usual superhero productions but which made over a billion dollars. Logically, we expected that a sequel would be quickly confirmed. But it was not until this summer that things accelerated for Joker 2. First with a title, Madness for twothen with a release date, early October 2024.
But the big news fell in early August with a teaser confirming the presence of Lady Gaga to play Harley Quinn. A very short video which shows that the singer will take over the role held until now (at the cinema) by Margot Robbie. Which does not mean that the latter will no longer play the anti-heroine. Simply that the universe of Joker and that of the members of the Suicide Squad is not the same.

With Lady Gaga in this major role, Joker 2 should take us on A musical. Indeed, according to the latest rumors, the film should take place for the most part in Arkham Asylum where the Joker embodied by Joaquin Phoenix. This is where psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel will meet her. The feature film will happen from his point of view and his imagination will thus offer us musical sequences. All of this is yet to be confirmed.
Margot Robbie approves
Even if Margot Robbie is certainly quite capable of ensuring this kind of parties, the presence of Lady Gaga could prove beneficial. This choice was in any case approved by Margot Robbie during an interview given to MTV News. The actress openly showed her support.
I think she’s going to do something amazing.
The actress went on to say that she always wanted Harley Quinn to become a character with multiple interpreterstaking the example of Batman.
It’s such an honor to have built a strong enough foundation that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors can try to play.
It is therefore now done. Even if in animation several personalities lent their voice for Harley Quinn (including Kaley Cuoco at the moment), Margot Robbie remained until now THE face of this character for the live cinema. To see now if Lady Gaga will manage to convince the public as much as her predecessor.
