It seems that partner manufacturers are in the process of selling special GPUs for mining through the famous AliExpress sales site.
On AliExpress, you can obviously find everything, especially mining graphics cards. And if the site is known for its inexpensive products, you will still have to pay here 2179 euros (!) to get one. According to the information on the sales page, this AMD BC-160 GPU (BC stands for Blockchain Compute) benefits from 36 calculation units as well as 2304 stream processors. It also has 8 GB of memory on a 2048-bit bus.
An AMD mining card?
The interesting information for minors is that it offers a hashrate rate of 73MH / s: it is less than an Nvidia RTX 3080 (97 MH / S) but more than a Radeon RX 6800 XT with 64 MH / s. In addition, the consumption is “only” 120 W. This is a fully optimized card for mining since it has no video output, for example.. Its connection is via a PCIe 4.0 x16.
For the time being, AMD has not communicated on this type of product, and it could therefore be that this approach is the sole initiative of the partners, who wish to sell their stocks in peace. This could be explained by the surplus components that were previously used to equip MacBooks (GPU Navi 12) and which now run with M1 Pro and M1 Max.
Obviously, this is a drop in the bucket in the face of recurring shortage problems, but if other manufacturers were to follow this kind of initiative, they could in the long term bring a breath of fresh air to a still good market. in trouble.
