” I’ve already done it “

According to producer Judy Craymer, Meryl Streep isn’t originally particularly keen on a sequel to Mamma Mia!. If the actress is reluctant, it is becauseshe has never performed the same role twice, as underlined IndieWire.

What convinces the actress to finally participate in the film is the fact that it takes the form of a prequel, at least for the whole part centered on Donna. Asked by Deadline, Judy Craymer explains about this:

She loved the idea of a prequel because she loved the idea of making room for young people. Meryl Streep doesn’t do sequels. She never told us that, but she wanted to be a part of it without playing the most important role. To be honest, she said, ‘I’m not going to sing nine songs, run up the hill, do my Melody of Happiness. I’ve already done it’.

Anxious not to redo the same service but still attached to Mamma Mia!, the star has nevertheless agreed to push (a little) the song.
