6 years after “Magic Mike XXL” which followed the first part signed Steven Soderbergh, we learn that a new sequel is now in the pipes, with the return of Channing Tatum in the lead role and a broadcast scheduled on the small screen.
Magic mike 3 will see the light of day
It is sometimes complex to follow and understand the filmography of Steven Soderbergh. In the early 2010s, he stood out with Magic mike, an astonishing dramatic comedy in the world of male striptease. The director followed in it Mike, a thirty-something a little lost in his life who transformed at night into a stripper in a club in Florida. Nicknamed Magic Mike on stage, he fell in love with Adam and decided to take him under his wing to integrate him into his club.
At the same time, he also met Brooke, Adam’s sister, and his life was turned upside down. This film is certainly not what Steven Soderbergh has done best over the past decade, but we recognize a certain daring in the male portraits he paints. An imperfect object, surprising in places and endearing.
A sequel saw the light of day in 2015, without Steven Soderbergh behind the camera but with Channing Tatum still in the title role. Variety now announces that the actor will play the character for a third time since a Magic mike 3 is in preparation. The good news that is likely to make the difference is that Steven Soderbergh will be in charge. The feature film will be titled Magic Mike’s Last Dance and will be visible on the HBO Max platform. Channing Tatum is responsible for confirming the information with the tweet below:
Unlike other colleagues more reluctant to the idea of spinning on the small screen, Steven Soderbergh has already taken the plunge on several occasions. In recent years, it has briskly reported on platforms. His last two tests to date (The Great Crossing and No Sudden Move) have also gone through the HBO Max box. It is also on this service that he will deliver the intriguing KIMI, a thriller against a background of agoraphobia.
If Steven Soderbergh loves platforms so much, it is probably because he can chain projects and maintain his hyper-activity. Something that would perhaps be more complex in the usual distribution circuit …
