In one of the cut scenes from the film that can be found on YouTube, we discover Daniel arriving at the spelling contest of Lydia (Lisa Jakub), his eldest daughter. We remember that Mrs. Doubtfire had her review this contest, just before going to the bathroom, and her son finds out that she was in fact his father. This sequence therefore happens just after.
Daniel cannot find a place next to his children, which triggers an argument with his ex-wife. Lydia, distracted, ends up losing the competition. The sequence ends with a touching face to face between the latter and her father. She asks him why he did not use his acting skills to pretend that everything was going well with his relationship and thus avoid divorce. He replies that the illusion would not have lasted, and that it could not have continued and adds that he is not a good enough actor to be in the shoes of a character 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. out of 7.
He ends by telling her that being her father is the greatest joy of her life, and asks her to forgive him for the contest.
