In 5 seasons, the screenwriter developed the inner demons of Luther, a brilliant criminal police inspector in Britain. Consisting of 20 episodes, the series is above all an opportunity to present Idris Elba in one of his best roles. The show has been nominated many times for the Emmy Awards and the Golden Globes. Idris Elba even won the statuette for Best Actor in a Miniseries in 2012.

Idris Elba recently confirmed that filming Luther had just started. Indeed, the actor has published two images on his Twitter account, including one of a movie clap, confirming the start of filming. Idris Elba also posted a photo of the show’s signature coat with the caption “I’m back”. The project has been on hold since 2011, but Netflix has just confirmed its start in September. Netflix therefore recovers the broadcasting rights for the derivative film of the series while the BBC remains as a producer.
Andy Serkis and Cynthia Erivo also join the cast of this film Luther. Apparently, these two comedians should take on the roles of villains. Cynthia Erivo should even to be the archenemy of the protagonist. Series creator Neil Cross is back as a screenwriter. The film will be directed by Jamie Payne, who worked on the series’ fifth season. Earlier this year, Idris Elba said this about this feature film project:
With cinema, there are no limits. You can be a little more daring with the storylines, a little more international, and a little more ambitious. But John Luther will always be John Luther.
At the moment, it is not yet known if any of the actors of the series, like Dermot Crowley or Ruth Wilson, will be involved in this film. No release date has been announced yet. In any case, the project to excite fans of the series, which was of excellent quality.
