Like other directors, Luc Besson took advantage of the confinement caused by the pandemic to work. It was on this occasion that he was able to shoot in the greatest secrecy a small production which is now waiting for a distributor to take an interest in it.
Luc Besson back in the foreground?
These last years, Luc Besson stood out more through scandals than for his work. His company EuropaCorp was in danger, he was targeted by an accusation of rape (the case ended in a dismissal) and his behavior (moral harassment and excess of authority) vis-à-vis former employees was also brought into the light. All of this obviously hurt his reputation, but he will be back on the screens with DogMan. A feature film worn by the always brilliant Caleb Landry Jones which tells the story of a man who finds the way to redemption thanks to his love for dogs. Filming has not yet taken place and the release date remains unknown.
Before his arrival on the screens, Luc Besson could appear with another film. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that the director shot in the greatest secrecy a titled project June and John. According to the media, it isa romantic movie whose production took place during confinement, several months ago. On this occasion, the director directed Luke Stanton Eddy and Matilda Price in the main roles, while taking care of financing the company himself thanks to EuropaCorp.
A modest project
Everything suggests that the scale of June and John will be much less compared to the previous work of Luc Besson. It seems that he wanted to go towards a more modest cinema, with less budgetary pressure. Even if the film is ready, he still has to find a distributor. That’s whyit will be presented at the Cannes Film Market in the next few days. This event aimed at industry professionals, which takes place in parallel with the festival, should enable June and John to be bought by someone. We will therefore know more soon and a release before the end of the year remains a possibility if all goes well.
