Tonight at 8:55 p.m., Arte broadcasts a joyful comedy playing with the codes of the thriller carried by a trio of irresistible actors, in which a couple of fifty-year-olds in debt and on the edge of the abyss tries by all means to get out of it.
A couple in their fifties, ruined and at their wit’s end, take refuge in an apartment in La Grande Motte. When an old friend reappears in their lives and dangles a hidden loot to share, their existence will take a whole new turn …
A thriller about precariousness
Co-written by Iris Wong (Les Trois silences) and Laurent Herbiet (Glacé, Luther) who also signs the production, Low season takes place in the city of Grande-Motte, deserted and gloomy in the middle of winter. In this gloomy environment, Carole (Emmanuelle Devos) and Richard (Eric Caravaca) are trying to get out of a financial impasse, at an age when they should be able to consider their retirement with serenity.
Swindled by a rogue tax advisor, they had to liquidate their business and sell their home to pay off some of their debts. Badly defended by an incompetent lawyer, they must also reimburse the costs incurred in their lost lawsuit against their advisor.
Forced to stay in the second home of Richard’s parents, himself reduced to a job as a stooge for a young leader of a start-up undrinkable who humiliates him, the couple is on the verge of implosion. When Anthony (Simon Abkarian), Richard’s childhood best friend, shows up at their house one evening, he offers them a deal to solve their financial problems. But this solution comes at a price …
A trio of tasty actors
To embody the couple, Emmanuelle Devos (We are made to get along) and Eric Caravaca (L’Amour Flou, Hippocrate) are having a great time embodying this adrift couple, who will take revenge on a society ruthless ruled by unscrupulous men.
Facing them, Simon abkarian (Kaboul Kitchen) embodies a third crazy accomplice, notorious crook who came to shake this duo at the end of the abyss. The result: a black comedy tinged with social realism, in which dreamlike sequences pay homage to gangster films.
Low season, November 26 on Arte and in replay on Arte.tv until March 19, 2022
