“Love at first sight in Notting Hill” with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant is one of cinema’s most cult romantic comedies. But do you know the alternate ending?
Love at first sight in Notting Hill: the cult romcom
Released in August 1999, Love at first sight in Notting Hill is part of the pantheon of cult romantic comedies. Worn by Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, the film relates the meeting surrealist (but friendly) between a Hollywood superstar (Anna Scott) and a small London bookseller (William Thacker) who soon fall in love.

This irresistible acting duosurrounded by colorful supporting roles (Spike), and cult scenes, makes this film directed by Roger Michell a classic that we never tire of seeing again.
The year of its release, the film climbed to fifth place in the French box office totaling more than 4.5 million admissions.
Do you know the alternate ending?
After multiple adventures inherent in their diametrically opposed universes, Anna and William end up getting together for real. The film ends with their wedding, then with a final shot showing the two lovers on “their” bench, with Anna’s rounded belly. A perfect end, which was however almost different.
Indeed, as revealed in the bonuses of the video edition of Love at first sight in Notting Hill, an alternate conclusion was filmed. It takes place in the restaurant (full) of their friend Tony, who has met with success. Around the table, Anna, William, Honey, Bella and Max are sharing a meal when a little boy comes forward to ask Anna for an autograph. That’s when Max asks William how the star life is, to which he replies that it’s sometimes complicated, but it’s worth it when you’re in love.
