Loki is reportedly the most-watched Marvel series on Disney Plus. Shortly after Disney launched its streaming service in 2020, Marvel Studios released the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series, WandaVision, in 2021, proving that the universe’s small-screen transition has been a success. Phase four of the MCU later continued on Disney Plus with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki.
WandaVision hinted at the existence of alternate realities, and Loki dived into the idea of the multiverse and/or alternate timelines previously implied in movies like Thor: The Dark World (2013), and Doctor Strange (2016), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). The series follows a different version of Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who escaped with the Tesseract during the Avengers’ time heist in Endgame. After Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) is arrested by the bureaucratic Time Deviation Authority (TVA), he enlists the God of Mischief to track down the Goddess of Mischief, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino).
After the release of Disney+’s What If…?, Hawkeye, and now Moon Knight, Loki remains the best show in terms of viewership. In addition to having the most-watched premiere of any Disney+ show, Loki is reportedly the most-watched MCU series on the streaming service. The series was watched for 5.23 billion minutes on Disney+, and WandaVision took second place with 4.8 billion minutes. Falcon and the Winter Soldier (4.15 billion) and Hawkeye (3.45 billion) took third and fourth places. Outside of the MCU, The Mandalorian was watched for 14.5 billion minutes and The Book of Boba Fett was watched for 4.4 billion minutes.
Loki is the only live-action MCU series confirmed to have a second season on Disney+. Loki is expected to appear in Ant-Man in the Wasp: Quantumania Kang the Conqueror He is in a very different TVA directed by. During the credits of the episode, there was a case file that read “Loki will return in season 2”. No official announcement has been made, but filming for the second season will reportedly begin in the UK this summer. Hiddleston, Wilson, Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku’s Hunter B-15, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna Renslayer are expected to appear in the second season.
