A tale for our time
After the scepter ofAquamanJason Momoa dons horns to take us to a fantastic new adventure… Little Nemo and the Dream World is a family movie narrating the life and dreams of Nemo, a little girl whose father died at sea. After this tragic news, she leaves the lighthouse where she lived to go live with her uncle in town. She will then have to acclimatize to this new environment, until the moment when an escape presents itself to her…
Thanks to the special effects magicNemo finds himself immersed in a new universe every night: Slumberland. Half-surreal, half-fantastic worlde, she and her sidekick – an animated stuffed pig – will meet Flip, an extravagant and endearing outlaw who will become their guide. Together, they go through dreams and nightmares in the hope of finding Nemo’s deceased father.

This film intended for children and adults alike thus evokes mourning, thus approaching a complicated theme with a lot of pedagogy. As its director Francis Lawrence explains, the film aims to be honest and optimistic, visible to everyone at any age:
One of the things that was close to my heart and that I worked on in the script was the theme of resilience, and in particular grief. Finding meaning and hope when you are grieving allows you to move forward and find the path to healing. (…) It’s a true story that exposes real emotions. It is not intended for children. It is not intended for adults. Ideally, it’s a story that can be watched by anyone at any age. (…) I hope it can be appreciated by all.
An inspired film
Little Nemo and the Dream World is not the first film to tell the story of Nemo. The story comes straight from the beginning of the 20th century, with thecult work by Winsor McCay. Originally titled Little Nemo in Slumberlandthis comic takes us into the dream world of a little boy with an overflowing imagination… It was in the 80s that the character enjoyed new success, with the release of the cartoon Little Nemo.
The same way as Alice in Wonderland continues to be adapted nowadays, Nemo definitely remains timeless. The world of dreams never ceases to attract us, and digital always allows a little more go beyond the limits of the possible… Dreams, magic, fantasy and enchantment speak to our children’s souls, and amaze the little ones. It is without difficulty that the latter will be able to identify with Nemo, embodied by the young actress Marlow Barkley.
