Like prey : a successful German thriller
Since September 10, 2021, Netflix has included in its catalog a German thriller, Like prey (Prey in original version), which seems to please the French public since it has just entered the top 10 France. We could fear that this title would go under the radar, since it presented itself alongside the action thriller Kate with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but this survival in the forest from Germany seems for the moment to awaken great interest from the public of the streaming platform.

Like prey is a survival, a very famous genre of cinema, which we have seen many times and in different places, from the very famous and very successful Issuance from 1972 until no less successful and funny Severance from 2006. On the water, in a haunted house, in a labyrinth, in the forest, the survival is a genre in its own right where a real horror show can be staged with real antagonists, such as a rather psychological terror where the “survivors” sink into madness not knowing who or what they are fighting against. “On his bachelor party weekend, Roman, his brother Albert and their friends go on a nature hike. When the group hears gunshots nearby, they attribute them to hunters in the woods. With who ?
The main quality of Like prey is his casting. Unsurprisingly, if they start at five, they’ll end the movie at a lot less. But that does not prevent the actors from investing themselves thoroughly and offering full interpretations: laughter, fear, dread, pain, anger, survival lends itself perfectly to passing its characters by all emotions. So we find to animate this thriller David Kross – that we could see in The Reader – and Hanno Koffler, two German actors accustomed to leading roles, Klaus Steinbacher, Robert Finster and Yung Ngo. On the female side, actress Maria Ehrich is accompanied by Nellie Thalbach and Natalie Fischer.
