A surprise success of 2014, “Les Tuche” received a sequel filming in the United States. A new experience, tinged with ups and downs for the whole team.
The Tuche: a wonderful family
There was in 2008 Welcome to the Ch’tis, who kindly mocked the people of the North. In 2011, The Tuche take up this premise somewhat (although the potential Nordic origins of the characters are never officially claimed). Indeed, to develop the story of the film, the screenwriter was inspired by an episode of the Belgian documentary series Striptease, which was dedicated to a real family from the North of France.
The first part of The Tuche was interested in a modest family from the fictitious village of Bouzolles who, by the greatest of luck, pocketed 100 million euros in the lottery. From then on, the life of the couple formed by Jeff, Cathy and their three-children Stéphanie, Wilfried and Donald, changes forever.
As it concerns Les Tuche 2: the American dream, the famous family goes to Los Angeles to celebrate Donald’s birthday, now living in the United States. However, there, things will not go as planned.
Like the first part, the comedy directed by Olivier Baroux is a great success with 4.6 million admissions, which made it the most viewed French film in 2016.
A sometimes dangerous shoot
For Les Tuche 2, Olivier Baroux moved his camera to California, to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Prestigious places for a humorous French production, but that did not go smoothly. Indeed, the shooting was punctuated by very complicated weather conditions. Thus, the sequences in the Californian desert were a real ordeal, because they were shot in deadly heat.
Likewise, the film crew, as well as the cast, had to deal with unwelcoming animals. As related by Telestar, Isabelle Nanty remembers a sequence in which a sheriff came to warn them about the fact that they were in an area where several deadly snakes were rampant. This prompted the actors to quickly reach their hotel.
The American dream could therefore have turned into a nightmare.
Note that the Tuches are back in 2021, with The Tuche 4, whose release is scheduled for December 8, 2021.
