With “Les Méchants”, Mouloud Achour signs his first feature film, co-directed with Dominique Baumard. A comedy that ranks among the flops of 2021, which humorist Redouane Bougheraba makes fun of in the face of the host on the show “Clique”.
The villains : a day in hell
Six years before the release of the comedy The villains, while France is going through the Charlie Hebdo attacks and then those of November 13, 2015, Mouloud Achour has the idea of a feature film. In the press kitthe journalist and host explains:
Between January 7 and November 13, 2015, in this extremely dark period, the only thing that still made me laugh a little was watching rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud. A street that begins in the trendy Marais and ends at the top with a mosque, where often the bearded men from the top of the street had the same looks as the bearded men from the bottom of the street who came out of fashion week. There, I started thinking to myself: “What if two bearded hipsters were taken for terrorists?”
While writing the script with co-director Dominique Baumard, the two characters become Patrick and Sébastien, played by Djimo and Roman Frayssinet. Following an “attack on fundamentalism” by rapper Carcéral (Anthony Bajon) on a continuous news channel, the media get carried away and present the two young men as “the bad guys”. Victim of fake news and becoming public enemies n°1 because of a dark click traffic, Patrick and Sébastien will have to put their differences aside and redouble their inventiveness to prove their innocence.
“It’s the only film where there are more actors than spectators”
A sequence of sketches that brings together beautiful people and defies all narrative logic in order to succeed in offering a sequence to each of the distinguished guests, The villains struggles to find its audience at the cinema. And this despite the presence of Omar Sy, Ludivine Sagnier, Alban Ivanov, Mathieu Kassovitz, Kyan Khojandi, Samy Naceri, Bun Hay Mean, Fadily Camara, Hakim Jemili, Marwa Loud, Heuss L’Enfoiré, Stavo, Fary or even Pierre Palmade in the credits.
A bitter failure on which Redouane Bougheraba, also on the poster of the feature film, is ironic in the show Click in September 2021. Facing the guest of the show Josiane Balasko, the comedian launches on the set:
Josiane, you have the Splendid troupe. We have the ‘Summer Tour’. It’s the same. We are groups of comedians and friends. We are really similar because we also made a film, directed by Mouloud. You, you make a lot of entries. We do a lot of outings. It is the only film where there are more actors than spectators! If all the families of the actors had come, we would have made the million in the first week!
Remarks that provoke the hilarity of Mouloud Achour. In the end, the film attracts only 138,000 spectators in French cinemas and stands out as one of the flops of 2021. A situation that the co-director and initiator of the project prefers to laugh at…
