The TF1 channel would it have been inspired by the music of “Dents de la mer” to illustrate the credits of its news? This is what the artist Serge Llado affirms in a disturbing musicological analysis.
A common point between the television news of TF1 and Les Dents de la mer, the classic of Steven Spielberg broadcast this Monday evening on France 5? It’s possible ! In 2006, the artist Serge Llado, supporting musicological analysis, affirmed in the show On va s’gêner by Laurent Ruquier, on Europe 1, that the French channel was inspired by the music of the film to illustrate the credits of its news, making sure to make it “more distressing”.
In an interview granted last June to Le Figaro, the mentalist Fabien Olicard, friend of Serge Llado, abounded in this direction. For him, there is little doubt: TF1 has hijacked the theme of John Williams for the credits of its JTs broadcast in the 90s and at the beginning of the 2000s, credits signed by the composer Gabriel Yared, Oscar winner for his work on The English Patient.
“The credits of the 1pm and 8pm use the music from the film Les Dents de la mer. They slowed down the rhythm and added violins, but we recognize the melody”, explains Fabien Olicard. “Why did they use it at the time? Because this movie really made an impression. Our brains associated this music with fear, and angst. If a news story starts out scary, it’s going to get all my concentration because I pay attention to anything that poses a danger to my survival. “
Serge Llado’s musicological analysis, to say the least disturbing, is to discover here.
