The release of LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga will undoubtedly have been as long and painful as the viewing of the eighth episode. But if every saga has a beginning, everything also has an end.

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga is finally about to see the light. With a brand new trailer, Warner Bros. Games finally releases the Bantha from the sand, and announces (once again) the release of the game for next April 5 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch. And this time, it’s the right one!

LEGO and colors

Originally announced for the year 2020, the summary adventures of the family who likes to wreak havoc throughout the universe had then chained the postponements. The six minutes of gameplay unveiled today will reassure players who have already turned the new episodes of the LEGO Star Wars saga all over the place, stating that each of the nine films can be freely selected from the start.

The combat mechanics also seem to have been the subject of some adjustments., offering a more precise aiming system or the possibility of taking cover for the Stormtrooper’s blaster. Not to mention the many space dogfights that should provide some variety.

The Force Unionized

Despite the show’s signature comedic facade, behind the scenes development of LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga has been living hell for TT Games employees. An article by polygon based on twenty testimonials reveals a crunch that has been a real model for many years.

It was not an emergency protocol in case something went wrong. Instead, the crunch was seen as one tool among many; projects were planned with crisis periods in the schedule, or even worse, the crunch was the calendar.

The developers of the LEGO games explain how the internal atmosphere was regularly weighed down by injunctions to stay in one’s job no matter what, some managers going so far as to follow their employees when they left to question them about their ” loyalty”.

The abyssal delay accumulated by LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga would result in particular from the desire of decision-makers to do without the Unreal Engine to work on an in-house engine, the NTT :

The NTT engine was unstable and some features were missing. Tasks such as adding animations that would take two minutes with the old engine can take ten or more, depending on how many times the engine crashes. It also swallowed up hours of work if the backup was not done correctly.

As a result, many more or less skilful changes have been decided upon as development progresses. Let’s hope that these changes imposed by the upper echelons do not affect the final result, and that LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga keeps all its promises…
