In the true story-inspired The Conjuring, we meet Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) and Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel) as married demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren who are hired by the Perron family to investigate paranormal events in their new home investigate. In “The Conjuring 2”, the now famous ghost hunter couple, who have solved numerous cases, end up in London, where a demon seems to be taking possession of a mother of four.
The “Conjuring” films are not only among the most successful horror films in film history – the first two grossed over 640 million dollars in total – but also among the most popular. For Part 1, we not only gave it a whopping 4.5 stars in the DashFUN review, but even a place in our official list of the best horror films of all time.
At the center of the “Annabelle” series is the eponymous doll that Mia (Annabelle Wallis) and John Form (Ward Horton) bring into the house as a toy for their newborn – and with it a dark force. “Annabelle 2” plays as a prequel before its predecessor and tells the story of the former doll maker Sam (Anthony LaPaglia) and the history of Annabelle.
With their two films, directors John R. Leonetti (“Annabelle”) and David F. Sandberg (“Annabelle 2”) followed big footsteps that honestly couldn’t have been filled. And yet: Your two horror stories may appear a bit more formulaic, but in the end they are still effective shockers that fans of the genre will definitely get their money’s worth.
