Oscar-nominated actress and comedian Sacha Baron Cohen is in talks to join Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline in Disclaimer, the Apple TV Plus television adaptation of the Renee Knight novel written, directed and produced by Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón. Baron-Cohen received multiple Oscar nominations last year for Best Supporting Actor for Aaron Sorkin’s performance in The Trial Of The Chicago Seven and Best Adapted Screenplay for Borat’s sequel.
Baron Cohen’s latest TV series is the critically acclaimed spy Netflix series The Spy and the Showtime series Who Is America? it happened. The Disclaimer was produced by Cuarón’s Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content companies. Cuarón serves as executive producer alongside Esperanto Filmoj’s Gabriela Rodriguez and Anonymous Content’s David Levine, Dawn Olmstead, and Blanchett.
Oscar-winner Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity) and Academy Award nominee Bruno Delbonnel (The Tragedy of Macbeth) will serve as directors of photography on the project. The novel will be the director’s first series since signing a general deal with the broadcaster in 2019, and Cuarón will write and direct all episodes of an original series for the first time.
Blanchett plays Catherine Ravenscroft, a successful and respected television documentary journalist whose work has been built around uncovering secret violations of long-respected institutions. When a compelling novel written by Kline’s character appears on her bedside table, she is horrified to realize that it is the key character in a story she long hopes is buried in the past, revealing its darkest secret. Baron Cohen’s role is kept secret for now.
