The Korean remake of La Casa de Papel will arrive this year on Netflix. Discover the very first images.
Netflix has just unveiled the first teaser for its South Korean adaptation of La Casa de Papel. On this occasion, we finally discover the title attributed to the series: Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, which partly takes up the international title of La Casa de Papel.
The teaser kicks off with The Professor – played by Yoo Ji-tae (seen in Old Boy) – plotting a heist. Like The Professor played by Álvaro Morte, he wears glasses but no beard. He stands in front of a wall with several traditional Korean masks and Salvador Dali’s iconic mask from the Spanish series. He reaches out to choose one, as the camera pans around before we can see which one he chooses.
We then discover the character of Seon Woojin – played by Kim Yunjin, known among other things for her role as Sun in Lost – the head of the crisis negotiation team in a control room, the equivalent of Raquel Murillo. The teaser ends with an introduction to each member of the heist and their codenames.
While no release date for Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area has been announced, it is likely to arrive on Netflix later this year. As in the original series, this remake will see The Professor and his team attempt to carry out an extraordinary robbery.
This remake will also be an opportunity to find Park Hae-Soo, who became famous throughout the world thanks to his role as Cho Sang-Woo or player 218 in Squid Game, in the role of Berlin, the right arm of the Professor.
Ryu Yong-jae (co-writer of the film Peninsula) is the creator of the series with Álex Pina, the creator and executive producer of La Casa de Papel, who serves as executive producer for this remake.
La Casa de Papel ended last December after five supercharged seasons. Netflix announced on this occasion that a spin-off series devoted to the emblematic character of Berlin, played by Pedro Alonso, will be broadcast in 2023.
