It is therefore on December 3, 2021 that “La casa de papel” ended, 4 years after its discreet launch on Netflix. The conclusion was awaited by a horde of fans and the writers did not skimp on the means to try to impress us. We come back to everything we had to remember from this final.
La casa de papel come to the end of the road
Apart from any critical consideration, it must be admitted with objectivity that La casa de papel will have been a phenomenon. A real one, a big one, a resounding one. The series did not deviate from its reputation during the broadcast of the first chapter of part 5. The death of Tokyo shook the characters as much as the regular followers. A real earthquake which foreshadowed a disastrous and eventful conclusion. The challenge was major for the team of writers, so much La casa de papel had to scramble to get fan approval. How did it all end? What are the elements to remember? We take stock.
An unexpected twist that changed the game
After the Professor took control of the operation, he managed to restore hope to his people by showing that his plan was working. So the gold could start to come out. Even though the police understood what was going on, their search for the extraction area did not bring the desired results. However, the noose seemed to tighten inescapably when a police unit moved towards the right area. If everyone there was preparing to participate in a shootout to get out of it, the Professor disagreed, refusing to take any further victims.
This is how Marseille, Alicia, Benjamin and the others were handcuffed. Appearances, however, were very deceptive, for it was not the police who had reached them, but another band of thieves led by Rafael, the son of Berlin, and Tatiana, his ex-wife. The two ended up as a couple and managed to bypass the incredible plan put together by the Professor, Berlin and Palermo. For once, we must admit that the writers have managed to install a coherent and rather unexpected twist.
A last eventful episode
As for the Bank of Spain, the situation has become catastrophic. Tamayo has also taken the ascendancy over the robbers, helped by Sagasta and accomplices. The army was able to enter the building and the Professor had no choice but to surrender voluntarily by going there. To end the war? No, to play his final card and win the game. Facing Tamayo, he explains that they are linked. There will be either two winners or two losers. In the second case, it is even all of Spain that will fall since the robbers are in possession of the national reserve. A sum of gold which guarantees the solvency of a country. If it disappears, it is bankruptcy guaranteed. Tamayo cannot play with the future of his nation and absolutely must find common ground.

This is when the Professor performs his most perilous pirouette. He pretends to give back the gold by transporting trucks full of ingots. Nevertheless, it turns out that the latter are made of brass. Tamayo realizes this and wants to get rid of the Professor’s gang. The show wants us to believe that everyone has been shot. But this is obviously wrong. Tamayo and the government have agreed to make a deal. The robbers are keeping the gold hostage and no one will know that the ingots lying dormant in the safe are fake. All the heroes understand that they have won and that there will be no additional deaths. All this is possible thanks to the participation of Alicia, who found Tatiana and Rafael, while the Professor played the watch.
Ironically, robbers are now protected by the government, by winning new identities. It all ends in joy, with smiles and hugs. The main characters can aspire to live serenely and it is therefore with a victory that ends La casa de papel. A conclusion which confirms that no sequel will see the light of day.
