James Caan has passed away at the age of 82. This was announced by the American actor’s family on his official Twitter profile, among other things.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that Jimmy passed away on the evening of July 6, 2022. The family appreciates the expressions of love and condolences and asks that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.
James Caan can look back on a long, great career. Best known is his role as mobster Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He was also nominated for an Emmy for Brian’s Song.
But he also acted in films such as Stephen King’s “Misery”, “Violent Streets”, the original “Rollerball”, Lars von Trier’s experimental “Dogville” or the Arnold Schwarzenegger ripper “Eraser”. In the mafia comedy “Mickey Blue Eyes” he also made fun of his formative role in “The Godfather”.
Caan was still active as an actor until the very end – his last film “Queen Bees – Young in the Heart” was released in German cinemas on August 19, 2021 – and there are also some unreleased projects in his filmography.
