Netflix has unveiled the first images of “Killer Game”, its new horror film which takes up the main themes of recent comic slashers like “Happy Birthdead” or “Freaky”. The film produced by James Wan arrives on October 5 on the platform.
Killer Game: what is this new Netflix movie?
Expected on the streaming platform on October 6, Killer Game is directed by Patrick Brice (Creep) and written by Henry Gayden (Shazam!). But what interests us above all is that it is produced by a shoe size genre cinema: James Wan (Conjuring).
Makani Young left Hawaii to settle with his grandmother in a small quiet town in Nebraska. But as graduation day approaches for the high school student, her classmates are harassed by a killer determined to reveal their most terrible secrets to the entire city. The murderer terrorizes his victims by wearing masks of their own faces, larger than life. Makani, who is also hiding a heavy secret, and her friends must discover the identity of the killer before they themselves become victims.
Killer Game is the adaptation of the eponymous novel by Stephanie Perkins published in 2019 and ranked in the New York Times bestsellers.
First images unveiled
Netflix today unveiled the first trailer for the film (available at the head of the article). Unsurprisingly, the film seems to be riding the comic slasher movement like the recent ones. Happy birthdead Where Freaky. Indeed, we find the key ingredients: high school students not really smart, a bloodthirsty killer, and obviously a dose of humor.
Even if originality does not seem to be appropriate for this new film made in Netflix, the gimmick of the killer wearing the mask with the effigy of the victims is promising.
