In “Borrego” we meet Elly (Lucy Hale), a dedicated botanist who works near Borrego Springs in Southern California. In order to research a rare plant species that only grows there, she goes to the adjacent desert. As the sun goes down, Elly accidentally witnesses the crash of a small private plane on the way home.
The young woman rushes to the crash site to help. She realizes too late what kind of machine this must be. Because there are packages of drugs lying around everywhere and the injured pilot (Leynar Gomez) spontaneously starts shooting at them. Elly tries to escape, but is taken hostage by the courier, who calls himself Tomas. She is to help him get to a place on the nearby Salton Sea where he can dump the remains of his cargo.
In order to survive, Elly plays along for the time being. At the same time, however, she is working on an escape plan. Meanwhile, Deputy Sheriff Gomez (Nicholas Gonzalez) first finds her abandoned car, then the wrecked plane and gives chase. But he’s not the only one. Guillermo (Jorge A. Jimenez), a cartel henchman who is in big trouble if the wrecked plane’s cargo isn’t found, is also on the hunt for the duo…

Director and screenwriter Jesse Harris (“Living Life”) filmed his tear in the desert of Tabernas, in Andalusia, Spain. The lead role was played by Lucy Hale, best known for her role in the hit series Pretty Little Liars. Suspense cinema isn’t new territory for the Tennessee-born actress. Wasn’t she already in the horror titles “Scream 4”, “Truth or Dare” and most recently “Fantasy Island”.
Other roles included Narcos season 2’s Leynar Gomez, No Man’s Land – Crossing the Line’s Jorge A. Jimenez, La Brea’s Nicholas Gonzalez and Parks And Recreation” in front of the camera.
