Perceval, embodied by the excellent Franck Pitiot in the series “Kaamelott” and in “Kaamelott – First part”, is he a genius of mathematics or an inexperienced amateur? Alexandre Astier answers us in the audio commentary of the film.
Capable of counting the stones of Arthur’s castle in the blink of an eye and grasping the rules of the most obscure Welsh games, the knight Perceval, played by Franck Pitiot in Kaamelott, seems on the contrary totally impossible to distinguish the left from right, or north from south.
This exceptional character, as funny as he is touching, who never understands when you speak to him but who makes Excalibur’s blade sparkle when he wields it, is he a genius who ignores himself or a simple idiot?
Or, to pick up on a question that fans have often asked themselves: is he really that good at math? Or is it zero?
“It’s both!”, explains Alexandre Astier in the audio commentary of Kaamelott – Premier Volet, available on DVD-Blu-ray.
“That is, he is very good when things are very complicated. He is able to look at a castle and instantly know how many stones there are in that castle. On the other hand,” the day after tomorrow ” , it is a notion which escapes him. Or “3 + 2”, it is a trick, it will never arrive there. But on the other hand, counting belligerents in a plain of battle, it will arrive there. Is he good at math? Yes and no. “

To sum up, don’t hesitate to ask Perceval for his opinion on the number of beans in a jar at the fair. However, don’t expect to get anything if you ask it to head northwest.
As he says himself, “depending on how you are shot, that changes everything!”
