Fans of “Kaamelott” have been patient, but they were rewarded last year with the theatrical release of the first film. The story is not over and a sequel must see the light of day. Alexandre Astier has just given news of this second part.
Kaamelott: from small to big screen
In 2009 the series ended Kaamelott broadcast on M6. Within a few years, she had managed to create a strong core of fans. This co-creation by Alexandre Astier was based on the famous legend of King Arthur. With a lot of humor, she followed this cult figure in his quest for the Holy Grail, with an irresistible gallery of secondary characters. The end of the show with Book VI was not to mark the end of the universe. A passage to the cinema was planned to prolong the adventure, with more ample means. More than a decade later, in 2021, a feature film has finally seen the light of day. Subtitle First par the, therefore, confirmed that a trilogy project was still relevant.
The plot of the film unfolds 10 years after the last season, with an Arthur who gave way to his rival, Lancelot du Lac. Faced with the urgency of the situation, the Gods demand the return of the former king, to lead the resistance. More ambitious, this project was a great success in theaters. Despite arriving in a complicated context (the reopening of theaters in the midst of a pandemic), he has accumulated more than 2.6 million admissions in France. Now, the question that fans are asking is: how long will it take to find out what happens next?
Shooting expected in 2023
Passing through the show As an aside, Alexandre Astier was asked about the rest of the trilogy. He did not shy away and started by stating again that we will have two films. The idea is that the second part will be split in two but shot one after the other. A process that will allow releases only a few months apart. Before that, there is a huge shoot to manage and Alexandre Astier announces that he would like to start production in the spring of 2023.
It’s a bit like Kill Bill, you know? It’s 2 x 2 hours, separated by 4-5 months out. So already for me it’s a 4 hour shoot. It’s a little different. I would like to shoot next spring. Yeah, in the spring of 2023, if I can!
At the moment, the writing is not yet finished. If all goes well, the two films could be released during the year 2024. This may seem far away, but this delay is still more minimal than that which separated the series from the first cinematographic component.
