Jungle Cruise: on the set of the Disney adventure movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt

After “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Haunted Manor”, it is the turn of the “Jungle Cruise” attraction to land at the cinema. The time of an adventure film worn by Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, who introduced him to us on the set.

There was Pirates of the Caribbean. Then The Haunted Mansion. Now it’s time for Jungle Cruise. Although it only exists in the United States, Japan and Hong Kong, it is one of the top attractions of Disney parks, and today it is becoming a film, directed by Jaume Collet. -Serra and played by Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

Postponed for a year, like the majority of American blockbusters of 2020, because of the coronavirus pandemic, Jungle Cruise is finally arriving on our screens. And the two actors had welcomed us on the set to present us this adventure film.

DashFUN: We imagine that your children were happy to hear that you were going to play in an adaptation of the attraction “Jungle Cruise”.
Emily blunt : Yes ! They jumped for joy and immediately wanted to come on the set in Hawaii! We shot a large part of the film there, for almost two months. [sur quatre au total, ndlr]. Plus, I’m really me in this movie. Their mom. And not a weird, heavily made-up nanny like in Mary Poppins, where they didn’t recognize me with my totally different tone of voice and my wig. They loved the filming of Jungle Cruise, it was like a total immersion trip to Disneyland.

Dwayne johnson : And then your children were surprised by my presence. I’m from Hawaii and I think they enjoyed meeting someone who is really local, not just an actor, in this heavenly place. As for mine, they love Hawaii and we spend most of our vacations there when I’m not working or when we’re not in Miami.

I believe our children were also impressed with the film sets we built from what already existed there. The village and the jungle are really striking and gigantic! It is apparently the largest movie set that Disney has built in all of its cinematic history.

How was this adaptation of the famous Disney attraction designed?
Dwayne Johnson: I think it’s one of the favorite attractions of all visitors to Disneyland, and it has been since 1955. So it’s amazing to try to make a movie of it. We owe it to ourselves to honor the park and this attraction. It was a real challenge to find the right story to tell to highlight Jungle Cruise, respecting its state of mind but also bringing something new to the audience.

Who are your characters?
Emily Blunt: I play Lily Houghton. She is an adventurer full of optimism and ahead of her time, since the action takes place in 1917. She is out of the ordinary for a woman of that time! This is not the damsel in distress that one might imagine. Dwayne, on the other hand, is the damsel in distress in the movie. (laughs)

Dwayne Johnson: I am the big girl in the movie, indeed! More seriously, I think it was a great idea to make Lily the strong character in the film. He’s kind of Indiana Jones. As for my character, Captain Frank, he doesn’t see everyone like her at all.

Could you survive in a real jungle like the Amazon in real life? What would you be afraid of?
Emily Blunt: I’d be afraid of Dwayne if I ran into him! I don’t think I would do so badly in the jungle. Not like Dwayne, who claims to have to take at least five showers a day. I can last at least a week without a shower. Thinking about it a little more, I think I would have a problem with the various insects that are found in the jungle.

I’m not afraid of snakes, but I don’t feel too close to centipede and all hairy insects. I also hate the giant cockroaches that can be found there. My daughter jumped in fright one day at the sight of one of the mutant cockroaches who had come to visit her in her room.

“Jungle Cruise” must change you from the movies where you are all alone to save the world Dwayne.
Dwayne Johnson: Yes, it feels good to be able to count on someone else. And someone as charming as Emily. My character is a bit cynical, and it feels good to play something other than the savior of the world. And then I think Emily is a perfect role model for young women …
