Todd Phillips announced the development of Joker 2: Folie à Deux via a simple image on Instagram, without any other information. The Hollywood Reporter Their contacts were therefore cooked, and according to them, Lady Gaga could end up joining the project.
Joker 2, a musical with Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga reportedly started talks to star in Joker 2: Folie à Deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix. This is what the sources of The Hollywood Reporter say, who, like Variety or Deadline, always has the right information.
If the negotiations are successful, “Gaga” would have a role perhaps cut to measure for her, that of Harley Quinn. This goes directly to the theory that the title of the film is a reference to this character. She would thus succeed Margot Robbie, who despite failed feature films (except The Suicide Squad of James Gunn), perfectly embodied the psychiatrist / girlfriend of the Joker.
The Hollywood Reporter has another vital detail about Joker 2: Folie à Deux would be A musical. This would contrast with the first film where we follow Arthur Fleck, a failed actor, despised by society and who will gradually sink into dementia. But why not, as long as it’s not High School Musical.
A future box?
By exceeding one billion in worldwide revenue, for a budget of approximately 60 million (excluding marketing) Joker returned to the courses of the big ones. That of extremely profitable films. And yet, Todd Phillips’ feature film was less “accessible” than other superhero productions. Considering the box office result and the good reviews, Joker 2: Folie à Deux therefore has a boulevard. But the musical side could divide, to see.
As for Lady Gaga, this will not be her first role. The singer of “Just Dance”, “Bad Romance” or “Poker Face”, broke through in Hollywood in A Star is Born by Bradley Cooper. The music “Shallow” and the fame of Gaga having contributed much to the triumph of the film. But we also saw it at Ridley Scott for House of Gucciat Robert Rodriguez for Machete Kills or even in season 5 of the American Horror Story series by Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck, Glee…).
