Keanu Reeves has been linked with video games since the start of his career. From Bill & Ted to The Matrix, the comedian has seen many of his big screen adventures turned into video games. And as Cyberpunk 2077 has shown, he has even played game characters unrelated to any movie. That doesn’t mean Keanu Reeves is ready to appear in just any game, though.
Keanu Reeves doesn’t want John Wick or Neo to appear in a Mortal Kombat game. the information is all that there is more credible since it comes out of the mouth of the actor himself. Keanu Reeves recently answered questions from the magazine’s website Esquire. And it was during this interview that the subject of Mortal Kombat was brought up.
Neo who takes a Fatality, it’s not for now
He was indeed asked if he would let John Wick or the hero of The Matrix appear in a Mortal Kombat game. And unfortunately for those interested in the idea, Keanu Reeves replied in the negative:
If the decision was up to me? No. Mortal Kombat is awesome for a lot of reasons. But I think… You know… Neo… John Wick… They do their own stuff. And Mortal Kombat does its own stuff …
Mortal Kombat and Keanu Reeves fans will therefore have to be content with this vague answer, to say the least. In any case, his opinion seems clear-cut. It also appears that the actor is looking for the most diplomatic way possible to answer this question.
This explains that ?
This statement appears to be the resolution to a mystery more than two years old. Indeed, Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat, spoke in October 2019 about the guest characters he would have liked to include in Mortal Kombat 11 but he was not allowed to integrate. The director of the game then revealed that he wanted to put these same John Wick and Neo in Mortal Kombat 11. But that could not be done.
At the time, Ed Boon hadn’t explained what got stuck. However, it could be that Keanu Reeves himself has vetoed during the development of the game. The actor clearly does not seem excited by the idea of his characters appearing in the ultra violent universe of Mortal Kombat.
As a reminder, many famous characters are present in the Mortal Kombat 11 roster. Actors such as Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Christophe Lambert or even Peter Weller have lent their appearance and / or their voice to the fighting game. But don’t expect Keanu Reeves to join the club.
What do you think of these statements from Keanu Reeves? Do they disappoint you? Would you have liked to see John Wick or Neo in Mortal Kombat? Conversely, do you think that these characters do not stick to the universe of the fighting game? Tell us all in the comments below.
