Ghost of Tsushima has undoubtedly been one of Sony’s big hits during the PS4 generation. This success was such that a film adaptation project of the game was announced in March 2021. Where has the project been since? This is precisely what was asked of one of the main stakeholders.
Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick films and future director of the film Ghost of Tsushima, recently spoke about the latter. Present at the premiere of Matrix: Resurrections, the filmmaker answered questions from the American site IGN.
Avoiding the curse of movies from video games
Asked about the adaptation of Sucker Punch’s PS4-PS5 game, Chad Stahelski explains that he and his partners don’t want to rush:
You know what adaptations of video games can do. So we take our time and do it right. We work very closely with the game developers to make sure we stick with what’s great about the game.
The director of the film Ghost of Tsushima does not go into details. To reassure fans of the game, Chad Stahelski nonetheless asserted that the fans “will be very happy with what they are working on“For now, those same fans can only take his word for it.
Ghost of Tsushima, an adaptable film game?
As a reminder, Chad Stahelski, Alex Young and Jason Spitz are producing the film through their company 87Eleven Entertainment. Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan are producing the film for PlayStation Productions. Sucker Punch Productions, the developer of the original game, serves as executive producer through Peter Kang.
For his part, Daisuke Tsuji, the Japanese-American comedian who lent his features, his gestures and his voice (in English) to Jin Sakai, for his part expressed his interest in the project. He had indeed declared with humor that he “agreed to show his buttocks on the screen.“This remark refers to the scenes in Ghost of Tsushima in which the hero bathes in hot springs.
The process is obviously not sufficiently advanced to discuss a release date for the moment. And it’s a safe bet that this Ghost of Tsushima film project will be talked about many times before its release.
