For his sixth feature film, the actress and director Maïwenn decides to tackle a part of the history of France. In fact, two years later DNAshe completely changes register since she launched herself into The realisation of Joan of Barry, a historical film about the favorite of Louis XV. The film is much talked about since it will feature a certain Johnny Depp as the famous king of France.
The comedian, who was boycotted in Hollywood because of his trial with Amber Heard, will therefore make its big comeback on cinema screens, via a French production. For the occasion, he will rub shoulders with Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Noémie Lvovsky, India Hair, Melvil Poupaud and even Maïwenn herself in the role of Jeanne du Barry.
Filming wrapped up this summer, and the actress is currently in the middle of editing. During an interview with The Sunday Journal, Maïwenn confided in her new feature film. She also took the opportunity to reveal new images of Joan of Barry.

Maïwenn clarified that she was not really looking to make a historical film. Joan’s goal Barry is to focus on the relationship between Louis XV and his favorite:
The purists may criticize me, I am preparing for it, but I completely assume the angle I have chosen. A good film is above all a work that respects the obsession of its director and who dares to add lyricism, poetry and even humor.

My film isn’t very talkative and so it didn’t have a whole slew of texts to say. What impressed me the most was his expressiveness: in the scenes without dialogue, his face showed a lot of emotion.
