The famous actor will take on both the lead role and the producer in the new biography movie.
Jared Leto will play Lagerfeld in the biopic of iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, and will also produce the film alongside Emma Ludbrook. The scriptwriter and director of the film, which is currently only in development, are unknown.
Lagerfeld, who passed away in February 2019, is best known for her powerful role as Chanel’s artistic director. Stating that the film will explore the designer’s “many relationships”, Leto said, “Karl had a career of over 50 years, so he was close to a lot of people, both personally and professionally. I can say that we will enter key relationships that convey different parts of his life.”
Stating that he always saw Lagerfeld as a great inspiration, the Oscar winner described Lagerfeld as “a true sage, an artist, an innovator, a leader and most importantly a kind man”. He also added three of Lagerfeld’s longtime collaborators to the project. Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of the Karl Lagerfeld household since 2011, Caroline Lebar, Senior Vice President of image and communications, and Sébastien Jondeau, his personal assistant and bodyguard, will also executive produce.
