


The Japanese site Oricon News reported on a TV appearance by Mayumi Tanaka, Luffy’s voice actress from One Piece, in which she career end after Luffy explained.
»Achieved everything I ever wanted«
Mayumi Tanaka has been working as a voice actress for 44 years now and has embodied the character Monkey D. Luffy from »One Piece« alongside Krillin from »Dragon Ball«, Kanna Kirishima from »Sakura Wars« and Ryuunosuke Fujinami from »Urusei Yatsura« for 23 years now «. Now she announced that she would like to end her career after the end of the series and thus after this role.
“I’ve portrayed many young male characters in my time and I’d like to complete my voice acting career with Luffy. Even if I could still speak boys after that, I feel like I’ve achieved everything I ever wanted after this role.”
As early as 2019, the 67-year-old Tanaka expressed concern that she might not see the end of »One Piece« and that in this case the fans should please accept her successor, who she will choose herself.
The anime adaptation of »One Piece« has been airing on Japanese television since October 1999 and now consists of 1,031 episodes, which are available on demand on Crunchyroll. The original manga penned by Eiichiro Oda is available in German from Carlsen Manga.
