Between official announcements, rumors and fake news, it’s hard to see clearly about the DC cinematic universe. James Gunn, however, has just taken to his Twitter account to clarify some things.
what about Wonder Woman 3 and of Man of Steel 2 ?
Last October, Warner Bros. named the director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran to lead DC Studios. The two men then became, for a period of four years, the new makers of the DC Universe. With their appointment, plans slowly begin to change. And the DC Universe (formerly DCEU) as we know it should change in the next few months. At present, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Shazam : The Rage of the Gods and The Flash are still scheduled, but they could be the last remnants of the current DCEU…

Among the two big projects that should probably be canceled are Wonder Woman 3 and Man of Steel 2. As for Jason Momoa, who embodies Aquaman from Justice Leagueit could be recovered for embody another character from the DC stable: the terrible Lobo. But among all this information, it is quite difficult to know what is true and what is false. Recently James Gunn saidabout all this news, that “some part is true, some part is half true and some part is totally false”. Without separating with certainty the true from the false…
James Gunn clarifies some things
James Gunn recently took to his Twitter account to respond to the chaotic news surrounding Wonder Woman 3. Apparently, Warner would have asked Patty Jenkins, the director of the first two wonder womanto review his script and to explore another facet of the Amazon. Obviously, the filmmaker would have received many notes from Warner decision-makers Bros. (not just James Gunn and Peter Safran) to revise his script deemed unconvincing. In particular, there were concerns about certain character arcs, too close to failure Wonder Woman 1984. Patty Jenkins then decided to pack her bags and to abandon the DC Universe.
James Gunn was pretty clear on his Twitter account. He explained that as new head of DC Studios sometimes there are difficult decisions to be made. But that as the new CEO, he must set up a universe in his image:
Peter and I chose to run DC Studios knowing that we were entering a turbulent environment. Both in the stories told and vis-à-vis the audience itself. So there is an inevitable transition period. But, in the end, the downsides of this transition period were overshadowed by the creative possibilities.
James Gunn continued his statements by recalling that he was not at the head of DC Studios to please everyone. And that, sometimes, decisions will disappoint certain artists or certain fans:
We know we’re not going to make every person happy every step of the way. But we can promise that everything we do is in the service of HISTORY; and serving the DC CHARACTERS you cherish and have cherished all your life.
Superman remains a priority
Finally, the filmmaker concluded by asking for patience. By the time things are clearer in the DCEU:
As for answers about the future of the DCU, I’m unfortunately going to have to ask you to wait. We give these characters and stories the time and attention they deserve. We ourselves still have many questions to ask and answer.
Things still seem to be very complicated on the side of Warner and DC Studios. Whether Wonder Woman 3 seems to be in the hot seat, the future of Man of Steel 2 has not yet been officially addressed. Fingers crossed that Henry Cavill’s return at the end of Black Adam don’t be a wet firecracker. Nonetheless, when asked by a fan about Superman’s future in general, the director said the character remains “one of their priorities, if not the biggest“.
