While the “James Bond” franchise will operate a new overhaul following the withdrawal of Daniel Craig as Agent 007, Edgar Wright has spoken about the future of the famous saga. And the British director would not be against the idea of shooting a “Bond” if he had the opportunity. Especially since he already has ideas in mind.
Edgar Wright: the English genius
Edgar Wright belongs to the class of prodigy directors. Indeed, the British have been passionate about cinema from a young age, to the point of already making short films in Super 8 during his adolescence. At 20, he directed his first feature film entitled A Fistful of Fingers. Although he is not satisfied with the result, this project will bring him visibility, allowing him to be hired to direct a few episodes of television series. It was during this passage that he will have a meeting that will change his career: the one with Simon Pegg. The two men will thus befriend and collaborate on many projects. : series The Lit, the cinematographic trilogy Blood & Ice Cream (Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Last Ad before the World’s End) …
Edgar Wright will thus become, at only 30 years past, a director that the big studios will want to tear off : adaptation of the comic-book Scott pilgrim, aborted project of the film Ant-Man, scripting of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, realisation of Baby Driver… Today, the British director has a solid fan base. The latter could therefore be attracted if he were to make a film James bond.
A director ready and available
While rumors and speculation fuse about the future of the franchise (its next director, its next actor), Edgar Wright did not hide his ambitions if we came to seek him. Indeed, in the podcast Happy Sad Confused, after analyzing that the James Bond films fell into two categories (dark chocolate to designate the dark films of Daniel Craig, milk chocolate to designate the lighter films of Roger Moore), the British filmmaker estimated thatit was time to change “style” after the Craig period :
I think we wouldn’t gain anything by continuing in the same vein, and that it would be more interesting to try something else … What I mean is that I have an idea for a Bond, and if the producers never ask me, I can tell them. So I’m not going to reveal it here, but when I hear some names going around, I don’t see them in this role. They remind me too much of Daniel Craig.
As for the actors, Edgar Wright makes, in fact, reference to the actors Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender. It is true that the latter two would look too much like Daniel Craig. Thing that would be impossible for a Wright who would like to make a spy film a little more humorous in the Kingsman
Waiting for James bond, Edgar Wright makes his comeback in cinema with Last Night in Soho, currently in theaters.
