Barbara Broccoli, the main producer of the “James Bond” saga, has just expanded on the subject of the potential replacement of the character by a woman. And she is completely against this idea.
Who will be the next one James bond ?
This is the question that torments all fans of the universe James bond. Who will have the honor and the heavy task of assuming the role of 007 in the future? To die can wait, released on October 6, a put an end to the era of Daniel Craig. The actor, now 53 years old, is retiring after 15 years of good and loyal service. Obviously, we will have to find a replacement. But for the moment, obviously, the producers are not thinking about the question yet, thus giving the spectators time to digest the last lap of Craig and of let James Bond rest a bit.
The arrival of Lashana Lynch as the new agent 007 has opened a door. What if James Bond became a woman straight away? An option that came back regularly, but which obviously did not please everyone. And among those resistant to this idea, there is Barbara Broccoli, historic producer of the license.
Barbara Broccoli is against the feminization of the character
Barbara Broccoli has regained the rights to James bond in 1996 on the death of his father Albert R. Broccoli, one of the original producers of the James Bond franchise. Since then, she partly manages the production, the legacy and the editorial line of the new 007 films. The producer has also recently spoken on the question of the replacement of James Bond by a woman. She gave her opinion during a long interview with The Hollywood Reporter. And despite her status as a woman in a Hollywood scene that is still very masculine, she says she is not very interested in the idea of seeing a female James Bond. And specifies that she would prefer women to have their own action characters:
I think it will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond. You have to create characters for women and not just for women to play male roles. I don’t think there are enough big roles for women, and it’s very important to me that we make films for women about women.
If she is against the idea of seeing a woman in the shoes of James Bond, Barbara Broccoli, however, clarified that skin color was not an issue.. The only rule concerning James Bond, is that he must be British:
He must be British. British people can be of any ethnicity. It can be any color, but it must be a man.
A statement which therefore confirms that the next James Bond will logically remain a man. Anyway, for the moment, James Bond is Daniel Craig again. Pamela Andy, who works with Broccoli and producer Michael Wilson, said viewers should be given time to digest To die can wait, but how wide the door is for his heir!
