At a British Film Institute event, bringing together the cream of British cinema in honor of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, producers of the 007 franchise, the latter spoke about the future of James Bond and when we will be able to discover the next film.
James Bond, the time of renewal
Premiering in October 2021, the 25th James Bond film Dying can wait was the end of Daniel Craig’s cycle, after five films released between 2006 and 2021: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Sky Fall, Spectrum and so Dying can wait. But even more than Craig’s farewell to the role of his life, this last film was an earthquake. with the death of the famous secret agent in its final sequence. A shock for his audience, and the end of an era. The disappearance of secret agent 007 was the end point of a radical transformation of the character, a hero who became more human and ultimately vulnerable.
Since this artistic pivot, and the takeover of MGM by Amazon, the 007 franchise has been in a reboot phase, where both the universe and the character will be reinvented. What does the future hold for us? This question is on everyone’s lips, and historical producer Barbara Broccoli spoke at a private event in London, providing some answers reported by Deadline,
Barbara Broccoli: “We are reinventing who he is and that takes time”
The producer opened up on two points. The first :what about the new performer? The second : when will we see a new James Bond film?
Nobody is in the race (for the moment, editor’s note). We think about where to go with the character, we discuss it. There’s no script and we won’t have one until we decide how to approach the next movie because, really, it’s a reimagining of Bond. We are reinventing who he is and that takes time. I would say that the filming will start at best in two years.
Two years is a long time, to which we can reasonably add at least two years of production, given the blockbuster caliber of the 007 films. new James Bond movie.
Naomie Harris and Ralph Fiennes, who play Miss Moneypenny and M in the franchise, were present at the same event, and the latter slipped into the tone of humor the producers had”killed Bond“. But it was only to bounce back better with an idea that would make sense: “Naomie and I are the right people to fix this. You find it, and we’ll train it.” Could we see the recruitment and training of a very young James Bond in this way? An idea to explore…
