It creates “PSOne style” boxed versions of PS5 and PS4 games

While video games are currently in a phase of accelerated dematerialization, players attached to physical media are resisting. And while it may seem odd to outside spectators, some players have a deep nostalgia for specific packaging. Proof of this is that a player offers the most motivated to give a retro touch to their collections of PS5 and PS4 games.

A boxed version of a PS5 or PS4 game that looks like PSOne games? This is what an American artist by the name of Llogan Morris is marketing. For a little over 20 euros, Llogan Morris offers a PSOne version of the box of a current game. With a rendering to say the least successful.

Such custom packaging includes the front and back cover as well as illustrations visible from inside the case. Of course, the game disc is not included. In the end, it is only a question of replacement boxes.

PSOne box goes so well for PS4 and PS5 games

On his page Etsy, many titles are available. Some games even come in multiple styles. In total, several dozen PS4 and PS5 games benefit from their “PSOne box.” Nostalgic PlayStation fans can give a little retro touch to games like Uncharted 4, Yakuza 0, Days Gone or even Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

As the games are no longer delivered with a manual, putting physical PS5 or PS4 games in such CD cases does not require setting aside any manual. This can therefore facilitate the decision to switch to this type of old-fashioned case.

Retro boxes, an under-exploited commercial potential?

Note that, unfortunately for European players, these boxes are offered in the American format of PSOne games. And Llogan Morris doesn’t seem interested in offering PAL versions of his designs.

For its part, Sony is well aware of the nostalgia that generates PSOne boxes. In 2017, Sony had indeed marketed in Europe a version of WipEout Omega Collection delivered in a sleeve reminiscent of the packaging of PlayStation games. And still in 2017, the Japanese manufacturer also sent special PSOne boxes on the occasion of the release of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. It therefore appears that the commercial potential of this type of packaging does indeed exist.

What do you think of these PSOne-style boxes intended to accommodate PS5 and PS4 games? Could this type of product interest you? Give us your opinion in the comments below.
