When the sun suddenly begins to kill everything in its path, the passengers of a night flight from Brussels try to survive by all means, stuck in a plane doomed to circle the earth …
Around the world by plane
In May 2020, Netflix introduced its subscribers to its very first Belgian series, entitled Into the Night. An SF production which was received rather favorably. Each of its episodes centered around one of the passengers on the plane.
Of all of them, only Terenzio (Stefano Casseti) – a NATO officer – seems to be aware of the situation happening in the world and hijacks the plane threatening the pilot. The other members of the group quickly understand that he is not crazy and that something serious is going on… Indeed, a solar flare would have multiplied the gamma rays, fatal to humans.
The problem is that they don’t have enough gasoline to be able to turn indefinitely in the sky: they first land in Scotland, where they witness a terrifying scene on the tarmac at the airport. , littered with bodies.
They take on board three soldiers who have been forgotten by their teams, but discover that they have been abandoned behind because they are accused of murder and rape. If they manage to get rid of two of them, the third manages to sneak into the plane. A fight ensues in the hold.
Along with this thorny problem, the passengers have to deal with other crises: when one of the passengers collapses, they discover that he was carrying diamonds in his stomach at the request of Ayaz (Mehmet Kurtuluş). The latter is handcuffed by the passengers after a quick trial. They then learn that the solar irruption makes food inedible and fuel unusable …
Putting their grievances aside, the group decides to try their luck at the United Nations headquarters, to find help and to operate on Matthieu (Laurent Capelluto), the pilot whose hand is infected with a gunshot wound. When they arrive there, they discover the location of a refuge in Bulgaria. After a fight, Terenzio injures Ayaz and leaves him for dead. But one of the other passengers witnesses the assault. The passengers decide to handcuff him on the plane while awaiting trial.
Arrived in Bulgaria, the survivors split into two cars. It’s a race against time to reach the bunker before sunrise. If the first group arrives unscathed at the refuge, the second must finish on foot after a slight accident. To be forgiven, Terenzio offers to stay at the door to wait for them.
Sylvie (Pauline Etienne), a former helicopter pilot, decides to handcuff him to the entrance, so that he keeps his promise. Finally the second group arrives by another entrance, leaving poor Terenzio alone and in chains, while dawn is coming to the fore …
The survivors are greeted by a group of soldiers within the bunker. Are they saved? The answer in Into the Night season 2 on Netflix.
