What if M. Night Shyamalan wrote the screenplay for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”? At the microphone of Collider, the director of “Old” recounted how he was contacted by Spielberg at the time.
While his new feature film Old (in which a family is visibly aging on a secluded beach), has been in theaters for a week, famous director M. Night Shyamalan recently told the microphone of Collider how he was approached by Steven Spielberg to write the fourth installment of The Adventures of Indiana Jones.
At the time, when he had just amazed the whole world with Sixième Sens and its unforgettable final twist, the emerging filmmaker had indeed been offered by the maestro to work on the screenplay for this new opus. . An honor that Shyamalan remembers fondly, even if he ultimately did not participate in the project:
“Oh my God, that was fantastic!”, he says. “Raiders of the Lost Ark is clearly my all-time favorite movie, so it was a daydream. Going to a movie in the cinema as a kid, and then later, the director of that movie to me. asks to write one of the future shutters … I could have passed out at that point. It was wonderful. “
If he was not finally able to go to the end of this adventure, M. Night Shyamalan still had time to develop a draft for the scenario of Indiana Jones 4. A story of which he unfortunately has nothing unveiled, but which he describes in any case as “darker” than the one we know:
“I still have my notebooks, the ones with all my ideas for this film. I had my vision. I spoke with everyone who was involved, and at the time, the project had just started. There hadn’t been any real brainstorming yet. Everyone shared their ideas with me. And everyone had different ideas on what to do. (…) I remember, it was a green notebook, and I had this idea. It was a darker idea. “
Even though, in the end, Shyamalan could not participate in the Indiana Jones adventure, he nevertheless continued his journey on his side, signing in the wake of Sixième Sens the excellent Unbreakable and Signs.
