In “Frank & Penelope” the male part of the title character duo meets the female when he seems to be completely broken not only financially but also mentally. Out of sheer desperation, Frank (Billy Budinich) even toyed with the idea of putting an end to his sad existence. But then he meets the seductive pole dancer Penelope (Caylee Cowan) in a seedy strip club.
Inspired by her zest for life, Frank spontaneously decides to try a new beginning with her. The two grab a car and leave town in search of a better life. In the middle of the desert they stop in a small town on the highway. There, the charismatic Chisos (Johnathon Schaech) is in charge, who turns out to be a cult guru. He would be only too happy to greet the couple in his bizarre provincial cult. It doesn’t seem to matter to him whether they join voluntarily or under threat of violence…
The 90-minute film opens in North American theaters on June 9, 2022. When and how we will see “Frank & Penelope” in this country is not known at the moment.
Frank & Penelope is Sean Patrick Flanery’s first feature film directing, having directed himself in the 2008 TV comedy No Game. The man from Louisiana achieved global fame when he portrayed one of the most iconic figures in action and adventure cinema as a teenager in the 1990s in “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones”. After that he was in “The Bloody Path of God 1+ 2”, “Sinners And Saints” and most recently in the hit series “The Boys’ seen on Amazon Prime.
Flanery’s protagonists are played by the relatively unknown Billy Budinich and Caylee Cowan. So far, both have only been involved in mini-roles on TV or in super-low-budget or indie short film projects.
The actors in the supporting parts have significantly more experience. In addition to Flanery himself, these will be joined by Entourage star Kevin Dillon, ex-Playboy model and Baywatch lifeguard Donna D’Errico, Johnathon Schaech from Quarantine and 5 Days Of War, and Lin Shaye (Insidious 1 – 4”) embodied.
