“In the Heights” Star Anthony Ramos Joins Marvel Series “Ironheart”
Ramos joins the previously announced cast lead Dominique Thorne, who will play Marvel character Riri Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. Details about Ramos’ role are being kept secret for now.
Ramos was most recently seen in the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s stage musical “In the Heights.” The movie was released in theaters in June 2021. His other on-screen work includes the movie “A Star is Born” and the TV series “She Gotta Have It”, “In Treatment” and “Blindspotting”. Ramos is also known to have appeared in Hamilton’s original Broadway cast as both John Laurens and Philip Hamilton.
It is reported that Chinaka Hodge will serve as lead writer on “Ironheart” in April 2021. The series was originally announced as part of a Disney investor day presentation in December 2020.
Williams was first introduced in 2016 in the Marvel comics created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato. In the comics, he is a 15-year-old MIT student who reverses Iron Man’s armor to create his own armor. Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, finally realized and gave him the courage to live the life of a superhero.
“Ironheart” is one of the few upcoming Marvel shows on Disney Plus. Among others, “Secret Invasion”, “Ms. Marvel”, “She-Hulk” and “Echo”. The last one is a spin-off of “Hawkeye,” as announced in March 2021. Also, a spin-off of “WandaVision” starring Kathryn Hahn was announced in October 2021. “Hawkeye” became one of the series aired, being the latest.
