In “En corps”, a dancer from the Paris Opera leaves to recover from an injury in Brittany, where she discovers a new family. A feature film born during confinement, a period of isolation which greatly inspired Cédric Klapisch.
In body : a dancer in search of liberation
Always passionate about dance, to which he had already devoted the documentary Aurélie Dupont dances for a moment in 2010, Cédric Klapisch returns with In body. The film begins with a long scene at the Paris Opera during which Elise Gautier (Marion Barbeau) falls in the middle of a performance, after catching her boyfriend kissing another woman backstage.
A deception and an injury that provoke a deep questioning in the heroine, forced to stop classical dance. To recharge her batteries and recover, she goes to Brittany to the residence of Josiane (Muriel Robin), which welcomes many artists throughout the year. It is in this place conducive to creation that she makes several decisive meetingsincluding that of choreographer Hofesh Shechter and his contemporary dance troupe.

At their side, Elise realizes that his passion has not disappeared and that his will allows him to go against the recommendations of the doctors, and to start living a full life again. François Civil, Pio Marmaï, Souheila Yacoub, Denis Podalydès and Alexia Giordano complete the cast of this dramatic comedy on the importance of groups and their harmony, which also manages to bring spectators together in the cinema when it is released in March 2022 The film totals more than 1.3 million cinema admissions.
Containment for accelerator
The desire of Cédric Klapisch at the origin ofIn body therefore comes from his love for dance but also from his meeting with Hofesh Shechter during an evening entitled Four contemporary dancersfor which he made the recordings at the Paris Opera in 2018. In the press kitthe director says:
I had already been thinking for a while that one day I really should make a fiction film about dance, but there, with Hofesh, I met someone with whom I developed a bond that will become a real friendship. .
The filmmaker then explains that “everything will accelerate and crystallize” at the time of confinement. He finds himself in command of Say thank you, a collective four-minute short film for which he edits images filmed by Opera dancers at home. This project “goes viral and goes around the world”, and convinces Cédric Klapisch, his producer Bruno Levy and STUDIOCANAL to embark on the adventure In body.
Elise’s journey in the film is also “a metaphor for what we are experiencing” at the time of confinement“about isolation and stopping something”, as the director assures Figaro. It specifies with the site Keeping to himself :
I fed on the Covid crisis, the state of society today, the relationship between men and women, which are not the same as five years ago, things like that, which interfere with organic way. The idea was to mix all these subjects to coordinate them and make a film about dance and about life, which I hope is coherent and offers a look at family and freedom.
