Not only the “Pretty Woman” star has undergone a visual transformation for the lavish mini-series “Gaslit”. Especially her male counterpart looks completely different than usual. Watch the trailer and guess who it is:
Set in the 1970s, Gaslit explores some of the lesser-known aspects, events, and backgrounds that led to one of the greatest political scandals of all time: the Watergate Affair that brought down US President Richard Nixon.
The mini-series is designed for eight, approximately one-hour episodes and is partially enriched with historical archive footage. The plot is based on the first season of the podcast “Slow Burn” by journalist and non-fiction author Leon Neyfakh, which is particularly popular in North America.
“Gaslit” starts on April 24, 2022, exclusively on the StarzPlay streaming service which can be viewed either directly via the app or via Amazon Prime Video and AppleTV+.
This is the story of “Gaslit”:
Martha Mitchell (Julia Roberts) takes center stage. Well-heeled and confident, Martha is a prominent member of Arkansas high society. She is also the wife of John Mitchell (hardly recognizable: the two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn)President Richard Nixon’s loyal Attorney General.
Despite her deep-rooted love and loyalty to John, as well as her own conservative disposition, Martha can’t get out of her decent skin. When she learns of the massive misconduct at the highest government level, she makes it public. As a result, not only the political landscape of the whole country changes almost overnight, but also Martha’s private life drastically…
And these are the stars and makers of “Gaslit”:
Neyfakh’s podcast was created by Robbie Pickering, a longtime screenwriter of Mr. Robot”, developed for the series format. Together with Julia Roberts and his former “Mr. Robot boss Sam Esmail, Pickering also served as producer. All episodes are directed by Captain Fantastic director Matt Ross.
In addition to the world stars Julia Roberts (“Ocean’s Eleven”, “Erin Brockovich”) and Sean Penn (“The Game”, “Dead Man Walking”), many other well-known faces are represented in “Gaslit”. They include Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), The Hunt heroine Betty Gilpin, Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire), Season 1 Alison Tolman, Chris Bauer (The Wire), and Patton Oswalt (“King Of Queens”) as historical figures.
