Yvan Attal’s next film, “Human Things”, is revealed with a first trailer. The film will be released on December 1 at the cinema and could reveal the young Ben Attal and Suzanne Jouannet.
A rape case at the center of Human things
Human things is the adaptation of Karine Tuil’s novel published in 2019 by Gallimard editions. It is inspired by an American news item on a rape case in a Stanford campus in 2016. In Yvan Attal’s film, Alexandre is accused of having raped Mila, the daughter of his mother’s companion. Is he really guilty or is it a revenge of the girl? Each of their family members will have their own opinion. We see it in the trailer unveiled by Gaumont (in an article) with the boy’s father, who considers Mila crazy, and in the confrontation between Alexander’s mother and Mila’s father.
The film should tackle this subject with a lot of realism. As we see in the promotional video, Alexandre goes through different stages: in the cell, in front of the investigators and with his lawyer. Just like Mila: facing the police to file a complaint, in the hospital and in court. Human things So promises to be a harsh drama but unfortunately extremely relevant to our time.
Two revelations in the film?
To wear his new feature film, Yvan Attal made appeal to his son Ben Attal. We retain from these images, even more, the young Suzanne Jouannet which is already overwhelming in the role of Mila. Both could well be the revelations of this feature film. Moreover, the other performers by their side, yet confirmed, are almost forgotten. We find all the same Charlotte gainsbourg in the role of Alexander’s mother, and Pierre Arditi to play his father. Mathieu Kassovitz and Audrey Dana are Mila’s parents, while Benjamin Lavernhe plays the role of lawyer.
The film will be released in theaters on 1st December. It had been presented in preview at the Deauville festival where it was very well received.
