General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt) was one of the first antagonists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the antagonist in The Incredible Hulk. After that, however, it was a few years before we saw the Air Force officer and later US Secretary of State again in the MCU. With appearances in “The First Avenger: Civil War”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Black Widow’ he was more present than ever.
And it was rumored again and again that he could soon play an even bigger role in Marvel’s film universe, after all, in the comic templates, Ross was at times not just one of the pullers behind the anti-hero team the Thunderbolts (who will soon be getting their own film) , but also eventually gained Hulk abilities himself, making him the Red Hulk.
However, with the unexpected death of Oscar winner and Ross actor William Hurt in March 2022, the character’s future in the MCU has recently been uncertain. But unlike the late “Black Panther” star Chadwick Boseman, Marvel has apparently decided to recast the role and let it live on. And for that, those responsible around Kevin Feige have probably managed a real cast coup, which makes the MCU, which is already peppered with numerous superstars, even more top-class: Harrison Ford is set to follow in William Hurt’s footsteps as Thaddeus Ross in Captain America 4: New World Order.

Of “Star Wars“ to Marvel: Harrison Ford lands in the next mega-franchise.
There is no official confirmation of the personnel yet, but the information comes from well-connected Hollywood insiders jeff sneider, who performed it on the podcast “The Hot Mic” (we have included the corresponding video below, we talk about Harrison Ford from 4:35). In addition, the website also has slash movie according to his own statement, he found out about the casting independently from unspecified sources.
In fact, Ford’s Marvel casting rumors have been circulating for a while, although rumors initially circulated that he would make his MCU debut in Thunderbolts, which features well-known characters like the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Red Guardian (David Harbour) embark on a secret mission on behalf of the government. But now Ford is supposed to be the new steed in “Captain America 4”, in which Anthony Mackie succeeds Chris Evans as Cap. Of course, that doesn’t rule out the possibility that we’ll see him immediately afterwards in “Thunderbolts” in a possibly even more important role, even if there’s no information on that yet.
Captain America: New World Order is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2024, followed shortly thereafter by Thunderbolts on July 24, 2024. With a role in the MCU, Harrison, now 80, swings into a new mega-franchise after going from “Star Wars“ has said goodbye and in “Indiana Jones 5” (theatrical release: June 29, 2023) will soon also be hanging up his fedora and whip.
