Three years after the end of “Game of Thrones”, HBO sends us back to Westeros with the series “House of the Dragon”, which will return to the wars of succession of the Targaryen family, 200 years before the birth of Daenerys. Find out the release date of this highly anticipated prequel!
House of the Dragon: Daenerys’ ancestors arrive
After the pharaonic success of Game Of Thrones, HBO wasn’t going to leave Westeros that easily. Thus, the network quickly announced that it wanted to exploit the universe created by George RR Martin a little more with several spin-offs. The first, on the white walkers, has unfortunately been canceled. But the one about the Targaryens called House of the Dragon has been confirmed, and it’s coming very soon!
As a reminder, this new series is interested in the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen, 200 years before she ignited Westeros. We will discover, among others, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith). Based on the two volumes of “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin, House of the Dragon will look back on the highlights of the Targaryen dynasty and more particularly on the war of succession of the family, which led to the famous “Dance of the dragons”.
Expected by fans of Game Of Thrones, HBO Max had not yet revealed the release date. It is now done: it will air on August 21. In France, as for the parent series, OCS will broadcast it simultaneously from 3 a.m. (for the more adventurous).
HBO vs. Amazon
But the real war will not only take place in Westeros. By choosing to air the series at the end of the summer, HBO will offer House of the Dragon just before the arrival of the other series highly anticipated event: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Indeed, the latter will arrive on Amazon 10 days later, September 1also at the rate of one episode per week.
