The comedian Jared Leto returned, in a recent interview, on his way of preparing his role in “House of Gucci”. And as usual, the actor did not use very academic techniques.
House of Gucci : Ridley Scott’s new movie
While a few weeks ago Ridley Scott unveiled to the world The Last Duel, he’s already back with a new movie: House of Gucci. Notably worn by Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, the feature film looks back on the history of the Gucci family, at the head of one of the biggest luxury empires. But at the end of the 1970s, the Gucci family was about to experience a turning point in their career as Maurizo Gucci and his wife Patrizia were preparing to take over the reins of the company.
Released on November 24 in French theaters, Ridley Scott’s film divides opinions. On the box office side, the work has already grossed more than $ 34 million in revenue in just one week of operation. Along with Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, the rest of the cast includes Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino, and Jared Leto, among others.
The strange preparation of Jared Leto
And it is precisely the actor Jared Leto that interests us here. Indeed, the latter is known to enter deeply into the skin of his characters, sometimes using slightly specific methods. We remember, for example, that on the set of Blade Runner 2049, the actor really wore lenses that made him blind to embody his character. During the filming of Suicide Squad, Jared Leto behaved like the Joker when sending weird gifts to the rest of the cast, like for example a pig’s head or used condoms. Good atmosphere …
For House of Gucci, Jared Leto plays Paolo Gucci, one of the heirs of the Gucci family. To step into the shoes of this Italian designer, Jared Leto has decided to live like the Italians. In a recent interview with the media The Playlist, the actor explained how he approached his role. For example he did eccentric comparisons between his game and Italian cuisine. He believes that by behaving like an Italian, he has captured the essence of Paolo Gucci:
I did everything. I snorted lines of arrabiata sauce for this movie, I had olive oil instead of blood. It was a deep dive that I did. My skin looked like parmesan! This is my love letter to Italy. There was a lot of work and preparation, and yes, I had an Italian accent. I lived this way as much as I could, and for as long as possible. I climbed into this creative cave and came out through the intestines of the one and only Paolo Gucci.
As usual, Jared Leto crates it up, and once again shares his often excessive way of approaching his characters. Thereby, House of Gucci is no exception to the rule. Jared Leto obviously lived in the shoes of an Italian for several months to get his character’s accent, habits and even diet.
