Disney might not like that at all. The famous mouse house has been making “Winnie the Pooh” films since the 1960s and has thus finally helped the novel character, also known as “Pooh the Bear”, to worldwide fame. Disney certainly doesn’t want anything to do with the latest film. Because “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” is a gruesome horror retelling of the famous original story by author AA Milne.
This is possible because the copyrights to Milne’s very first book expired in 2022. A part of “Winnie the Pooh” is therefore public domain and can now be used without restrictions. However, this is only part of it. Some characters introduced later, such as Tigger, are still subject to copyright. Bear Pu is also not allowed to wear his iconic red shirt in “Blood And Honey”, since this was only introduced several years later.
Rhys Waterfield shot Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey in just under two weeks as a low-budget horror film. The focus is on Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, who are simply abandoned by Christopher Robin when he goes to college. Without food, the two animals, so tame for a long time, revert to their old animalistic instincts. They need food and they’re willing to kill for it…
Oh yes: And as you can already see from the pictures, these versions of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet are as tall as adult humans.
It is not yet known when “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” will be released. However, director Waterfield has already revealed that there is a high demand and that the post-production will be completed “as soon as possible” without compromising the quality of the film. So it could well be that the horror slasher will be released in 2022 — Disney shouldn’t try to do anything about it. According to Waterfield, care was taken to really only use elements that are in the public domain, but of course it could be that the Hollywood studio sees this differently and casts doubt…
