This year, Paul WS Anderson’s “Event Horizon” celebrates its 25th anniversary. The sci-fi horror starring Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne is commonly referred to as the best film from the director, who has always had a lot of scolding from the “Resident Evil” series or “Alien Vs. Predator”. As Anderson has now announced, he plans to return to his roots in the future. In an interview with Variety the filmmaker has this to say about it:
“I actually plan to do some kind of pure horror film in the near future. It’s something I’ve always been interested in. My career has been more action-oriented, but it’s always been kind of scary action. […] I’d like to make a fuller horror film – one that works more on a psychological level, a return to what ‘event horizon‘ was.”
Paul WS Anderson fans aren’t the only ones who might be excited to see what the return to Event Horizon-style horror would look like these days. Perhaps Anderson could even win over some of his critics who, as already mentioned, have either smiled at or slammed his works for years.
But before Paul WS Anderson goes back to his own roots, the adventure actioner “In The Lost Lands” awaits us. It stars Milla Jovovich, to whom Anderson is married, and Army Of The Dead star Dave Bautista. Production is scheduled to begin later this year. It is said that “In The Lost Lands” is intended to be a more family-friendly spectacle.
In The Lost Lands follows a queen desperate for the gift of shapeshifting. So she hires the sorceress Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich), a woman who is as feared as she is powerful. In the haunted wilderness that gave the film its title, Alys and her companion, the drifter Boyce (Dave Bautista), not only have to solve mysteries, but also fight against demons.
